Washington, D.C. (March 12, 2025) — Today, the Department of Homeland Security published an interim final rule that will require undocumented immigrants to register and carry identification documents at all times.
Ayuda staunchly opposes this policy, viewing it as a direct attack on the on the rights and dignity of immigrants and their families.
“The Administration’s registration process will only sow fear while doing nothing to make our communities safer,” said Sandra Benavente, Ayuda advocacy manager. “Immigrants who’ve made a home here, who’ve made our communities stronger and more vibrant, will be forced to choose between registering and potentially facing deportation or not registering and facing criminal penalties. Immigrants deserve a fair chance at pathways to legal status, not senseless punishment.”
We stand in solidarity with immigrants and call on policymakers to reject this dangerous and misguided approach.
