Washington, D.C. (February 22, 2021) – Today, Ayuda is thrilled to announce that we have joined the I Stand With Immigrants Initiative, powered by FWD.US, as an official nonprofit partner.

The I Stand With Immigrants Initiative leads narrative campaigns that empower immigrants and their allies to share stories and drive action that demonstrate immigration is good for our communities, economy, and country. They do this with the goal of encouraging all of us to explore our individual heritage and recognize our distinct and shared experiences.

As part of this initiative, the I Am An Immigrant campaign showcases stories celebrating immigrants, their families, and immigration in the United States. Ayuda will work alongside partner organizations to empower immigrants to share their stories, and drive action that demonstrates immigration is good for our communities, economy, and country.

Ayuda joins an exhaustive list of corporate and nonprofit partners, all seeking to create a country that works for all of us, who are committed to advocating for a more just and humane immigration system, and who are ready to support immigrants on their journey to justice.

We are honored to join this coalition of changemakers, and look forward to working together to build a stronger, safer, and more prosperous future for all.

About Ayuda

Ayuda helps low-income immigrants succeed and thrive in Washington DC, Maryland, and Virginia. Since our founding in 1973, Ayuda has served more than 150,000 immigrants throughout the region. Ayuda is the only non-profit service provider in the area that provides a wide range of immigration and family law assistance, social services, and language access support for all immigrants. Our comprehensive and open approach breaks down barriers, helps those in need, and makes our communities stronger.
Ayuda's Response to Busing of Migrants

Since April 2022, Ayuda has been working to help coordinate the humanitarian response as the governors of Texas and Arizona continue to send thousands of migrants on buses to Washington, D.C.

We are providing culturally and linguistically specific legal, social and language access services to newly arriving migrants. These services include case management and intake support, interpretation, as well as the provision of food, clothing, hygiene kits, prepaid cell phones, medical supplies, and paid shelter.

Our legal team is providing individualized legal orientations for migrants explaining the immigration system and helping them be aware of their rights and responsibilities.

“Immigrants are first and foremost, human beings. They deserve respect and compassion, and Ayuda will continue to do what we do best – provide holistic support to those in need in our communities.” - Paula Fitzgerald, Executive Director
