Washington, D.C. (June 30, 2026) – Ayuda supports today’s U.S. Supreme Court 6-3 decision, ruling that President Trump’s executive order attempting to deny citizenship to some children born in the U.S. is unconstitutional.

This ruling comes after two deplorable and consequential rulings on immigration last week, one that strips tens of thousands of Haitian and Syrian immigrants from their temporary protection status, and another that will allow U.S. Customs and Border Protection to turn away asylum seekers at the border.

“Justice prevailed today, but this should have never been a fight in the first place. The Supreme Court upheld what we have known to be an indisputable truth for nearly 160 years: The 14th Amendment guarantees citizenship to everyone born on American soil, with very limited exceptions,” said Paula Fitzgerald, executive director of Ayuda. “While we can breathe a collective sigh of relief, we cannot ignore the fear and uncertainty this attack created for immigrant families and communities across the country.

“Ayuda stands with immigrant communities, affirmed in the truth that our children belong here, their citizenship is unassailable, and the fight for dignity, justice, and equal protection for all continues.”
