In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, it is with heavy hearts that we have decided to cancel our annual spring signature event, Standing with Immigrants, scheduled for May 5, 2020. We will be rescheduling the event for May 2021.

While we were looking forward to gathering with you to celebrate the accomplishments of our incredible pro bono and community partners, the safety, security and well-being our staff, volunteers, and supporters are our top priority.

For those who haven’t yet committed or bought tickets, you can still make a fully tax-deductible donation to Ayuda! The CARES Act has generous new tax benefits for charitable donations. All donations enable Ayuda to continue our critical work to support low-income immigrants in D.C., Virginia and Maryland.

Ayuda has been helping low income immigrants in the Washington metropolitan region access justice, stop abuses, find safety, heal from trauma, overcome language isolation, and restore and rebuild their lives, for 47 years.

 

Since 1973, Ayuda has helped more than 100,000 immigrants and their families address obstacles to thriving and succeeding in the United States. Ayuda is a pioneer in providing holistic culturally and linguistically appropriate legal, social, language access and other groundbreaking programs to meet the emerging needs of immigrants in the community.

 

Because of the support of our donors, our doors are always open. Our staff are experts in their fields and live Ayuda’s mission in their hearts. Our immigrant clients may have limited incomes and language skills but they have unyielding desire to do better for themselves and their families, to share their heritage with joy and pride, and to give of themselves as members of our communities. Ayuda stands with them.

 

Our signature spring event, Standing with Immigrants, is all about supporting immigrants rebuild and transform their lives. The funds raised through the generosity of our supporters will enable Ayuda to sustain and expand its vital legal, social and language access services, and will directly impact the lives of low-income immigrants in D.C., Virginia and Maryland.

The Cosmos Club, founded in 1878, is a private social club for men and women distinguished in science, literature and the arts, a learned profession or public service. Members come from virtually every profession that has anything to do with scholarship, creative genius or intellectual distinction.

Copper Rekrut

 

Cooper Rekrut is an associate in the Washington, D.C. office of Latham & Watkins, where he focuses on complex commercial litigation and securities class action defense.  In addition to providing direct pro bono legal representation to several Ayuda-referred clients, Cooper acts as Latham’s “liaison” to Ayuda, helping to staff Ayuda-referred client matters with pro bono Latham attorneys, and coordinating Latham attorneys’ participation in immigration clinic events.

Matt Kelly, CEO of JBG SMITH

Matt Kelly is the CEO of JBG SMITH and a member of the board of trustees. Prior to the formation of JBG SMITH, Matt served as a Managing Partner of the JBG Companies and a member of the firm’s Executive Committee and Investment Committee. He previously was co-head of JBG’s Investments Group and was primarily responsible for investment strategy and the investment and acquisition activity of the JBG Investment Funds. Prior to joining the JBG Companies in 2004, he was a co-founder of ODAC Inc., a media software company, and worked in private equity and investment banking with Thomas H. Lee Partners in Boston and Goldman Sachs, & Co in New York.
